Sumble, a San Francisco-based sales intelligence startup, has reportedly emerged from stealth mode with $38.5 million in funding, according to TechCrunch reports. Founded by Anthony Goldbloom and Ben Hamner, the creators of data science community Kaggle, the company aims to transform how sales teams gather and utilize prospect information through AI-powered context.

While the sales intelligence market already offers numerous services for identifying prospects and generating pitches, sources indicate that Sumble differentiates by focusing on contextual understanding rather than raw data. The platform reportedly trawls diverse sources including social media, job boards, company websites, and regulatory filings to surface meaningful insights about internal company developments.
According to reports, Sumble utilizes a knowledge graph architecture supported by large language models to connect gathered data points. This approach allegedly provides comprehensive views of company technographic data, organizational structures, ongoing projects, and crucially, identifies the right contacts for sales teams.
Rapid Adoption and Impressive Metrics
Despite launching only in April 2024, the startup has already signed 17 enterprise customers including notable companies like Snowflake, Figma, Wiz, Vercel, and Elastic, according to the report. Sources indicate the platform has reached tens of thousands of users total, with approximately 30% paying for Pro subscriptions either individually or through company accounts.
Goldbloom described to TechCrunch how the service spreads organically within organizations: “What tends to happen is, we go viral inside a company. We’ll go from 1 to 500 MAUs in a company over a six-month period. The way the spread happens is normally within a Slack channel, then within a single team, then within an office, and then within that company.”
Although the company declined to share specific revenue figures, analysts suggest revenue has increased by 550% year-over-year, driven primarily by word-of-mouth growth.
Substantial Funding from Familiar Investors
The $38.5 million funding round consisted of an $8.5 million seed round led by Coatue and a $30 million Series A led by Canaan Partners, according to the report. Additional investors included AIX Ventures, Square Peg, Bloomberg Beta, Zetta, and prominent angel investors such as Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff and former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman.
Reports indicate that Sumble’s co-founders attracted several investors with whom they had previous relationships. Rich Boyle, currently a general partner at Canaan, was reportedly a board observer at Kaggle, while Bloomberg Beta and Zetta were also previous Kaggle investors. Goldbloom confirmed he had stepped away from AIX Ventures when the firm considered investing in Sumble.
Competitive Landscape and Defensible Technology
Sumble enters a crowded market competing with established players including Apollo.io, ZoomInfo, HubSpot, and Outreach, among others. Since the platform currently relies on publicly available data, analysts suggest competitors could potentially replicate aspects of their approach.
However, Goldbloom expressed confidence in Sumble’s defensibility, telling TechCrunch that their knowledge graph covering approximately 2.6 million companies worldwide represents a significant competitive advantage. “The way we think about it is, the more data that we add into the knowledge graph, the richer the corpus will be. We view the richness of the knowledge graph as a massive source of defensibility,” he stated.
Integration with AI Ecosystem
The startup is reportedly positioning itself to benefit from the growing adoption of large language models. Goldbloom explained that their data structure ensures the knowledge graph remains highly query-able by LLMs, enabling users to ask platforms like ChatGPT questions grounded in Sumble’s comprehensive data.

“We think AI is going to change the data vendor landscape a lot such that having a knowledge graph structure as a way to feed context into the large language model is going to be a key part of the LLM ecosystem,” Goldbloom added, according to the report.

Sumble currently offers its service as a web application and through an API, with paid plans providing additional features such as workflow and CRM integrations. The platform also includes notification capabilities that alert users when developments at prospect companies might present sales opportunities.
With substantial funding and rapid early adoption, industry observers suggest Sumble is well-positioned to challenge established sales intelligence platforms by leveraging its founders’ machine learning expertise and unique approach to contextual business intelligence.
